UPDATE 4/29/13 :: Benny & Joon visited the vet today where they seemed pretty cheerful. They are 2.5 years old, HW negative & have severe demodex mange. They could not receive their vaccinations/rabies today because of how severe their mange is so they will have to go back in a few weeks. They will also need to be spayed/neutered. The vet put them on ivermectin for HW prevention, to kill any intestinal worms and for the mange. The vet also put them on antibiotics to help the open sores caused by their mange to heal. The vet visit today plus the vaccinations/rabies & spay/neuter that will be coming up in the future is a little costly so we need all the monetary help we can get.
Benny weighs 50lbs and the doc said he can stand to gain 10lbs. Joon is 35lbs and she can stand to gain 5-7lbs. They are both very sweet and seemed good around other dogs & people.
We have to thank Anne Graber, with St. Francis Angels, for taking them in as medical fosters for the next 4 weeks to get their skin on the road to recovery so they can grow their hair back!
4/28/13 :: These two sweethearts were spotted today and we sent out Kevin, a volunteer trapper, to work his magic! It didn’t take long and he had both of them. We aren’t sure of the breed because they are lacking so much hair and we’re guessing they are covered in mange & infection from the looks of their skin. They will be visiting the vet tomorrow we will have a better idea of what we’re dealing with. Until then, we need to start raising donations for this sweet boy & girl so that we can pay for their vetting & temporary boarding. Their medical is going to cost more than most of the dogs we have rescued due to their skin condition. We will continue to provide updates – including names – as soon as we get them!
